A Compassionate Emergency Department Experience

When Kim Frase brought her husband to the Mount Carmel Dublin emergency department in April 2026, she knew something was seriously wrong. He was suffering from a severe case of shingles and was in intense pain — something highly unusual for someone who rarely complains and typically shrugs off discomfort with a simple reminder to “drink more water.”
From the moment they arrived, Kim and her husband were met with compassion and efficiency. “From the security guard to the physician who wasted no time admitting us, everyone was wonderful,” she shared. In a moment of vulnerability and urgency, the care team’s responsiveness made all the difference.
Kim described the experience as not only clinically efficient, but deeply human. “It feels impossible these days to get good help even in the most basic circumstances,” she said. “So having such attentive, compassionate care when you’re feeling desperate and overwhelmed is incredibly meaningful.”
One moment that stayed with her was the care provided by a nurse whose kindness and humor helped ease a difficult situation. “Even though I didn’t catch his name, he was a gem,” Kim said. “Keep finding ways to make people laugh.” His compassion was a powerful reminder that healing goes beyond treatment, it includes connection, empathy and reassurance.

Not long after this visit, Kim found herself back in the Mount Carmel Dublin emergency department. This time with her 68-year-old father. Once again, the experience reflected the same high level of care and attention.
“It was another great experience,” Kim shared. While she joked that she’s had her fill of insurance claims for a while, her continued confidence in the emergency department speaks volumes.
