The reach of the Mount Carmel Foundation extends far beyond central Ohio. Thanks to donor generosity and the support of our health system, Mount Carmel caregivers are delivering lifesaving heart care to people who previously had no access to it — including patients on another continent.
In 2023, a team from the Mount Carmel Electrophysiology Lab led by Kamel Addo, MD, FACC, FHRS, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, traveled to Ghana to establish a pacemaker implant system in a region where this care had never been available. With supplies donated by Mount Carmel St. Ann’s, the team implanted three pacemakers — lifesaving interventions for patients who otherwise had no options.
That first trip sparked a deeper commitment to continue this work. With guidance from Dr. Laura Gravelin and support from the Mount Carmel Foundation, funding was secured for additional outreach. In March 2025, the team returned and implanted nine more pacemakers. Donor support made this expansion possible.
The 2025 trip also introduced ablation therapy for patients with abnormal heart rhythms — the first time this advanced care had ever been offered in Ghana’s third largest city. For the patients treated, the impact was immediate and profound.
Your generosity is helping Mount Carmel caregivers change lives across the world. And the work isn’t stopping — the team is preparing for another trip in mid July.
When you support the Mount Carmel Foundation, you help bring lifesaving care to people who need it most — here at home and across the globe. Designate your gift to the program that inspires you, and be part of this extraordinary mission.
